Description:This course presents information that helps students better understand and administer various sports programs. A background of budgeting, promotions, public relations, and administration of the front office is included. This prepares the student for an administrative position in sports from youth sports through sports at the professional level.

Course Objectives

Upon successful completion of the course, students will be able to: • Discuss the importance of planning and how to achieve goals • Recall and fully understand the principles of effective management practices and how they apply to sport organizations • Be thoroughly familiar with the management environment and management’s ethical and social responsibilities • Identify the importance of the role of strategic planning in different organizational structures • Understand and apply key strategies in the creation of an effective organizational culture • Recognize the skills required by sport managers in problem-solving, decision making, negotiation, and conflict resolution in labor relations • Demonstrate an appreciation of the principles of resource allocation • Comprehend and develop an appreciation for human resource management in athletic administration • Apply effective communication skills in athletic administration • Use management information systems in athletic administration.
