Course Objectives

Students will: 1. Understand concepts leading to discovery and preservation of data and processing system information to track and trace previous digital actions and communications; 2. Establish and probe data structures including metadata and encrypted data to discover useful information for other data; 3. Maintain a chain of custody matching legal requirements for prosecution; 4. Evaluate techniques to discover data breaches, investigate employees, and to support both litigation and law enforcement; 5. Integrate and synthesize multiple sources including access controls, cryptographic sources, malicious code, data communications, and comply with laws and regulations; 6. Demonstrate the application of forensic concepts through execution using leading tools.
