Course Objectives

In this course, students will: A. develop effective information-literacy skills through finding, retrieving, analyzing, using, and documenting information in a major field B. develop effective research techniques including evaluating academic resources, acquiring resources not available at Thomas College, and using and documenting resources appropriately to avoid plagiarism C. identify effective learning styles and use effective study strategies (e.g., for note and test taking) D. develop effective reading skills and strategies (for both reading comprehension and remediation, as needed) through practice with texts in a major field E. develop effective critical-thinking skills, by deepening their grasp of issues in a major field F. develop the skills to access college resources related to academic and career planning in a major field G. undertake activities related to learning about their profession and its opportunities H. be introduced to the core competencies and begin populating an e-portfolio with appropriate samples of their work.

Critical thinking, especially pertaining to a major discipline D. Academic preparation in a major discipline E. Career preparation and development in a major discipline.
