Description:This course explores our physical, cognitive, moral, and psychosocial development throughout the life span from prenatal development through adulthood. At each stage, we seek to understand the developmental tasks and abilities, as well as challenges and problems. The course will focus on practical applications for parenting, teaching, and working with people of all ages in business and in relationships.

Course Objectives

1. To understand how a variety of factors such as biological, historical, social, and cultural influence human development. 2. To consider different psychological theories and how they help us to understand development. 3. To understand how heredity and environment interact to influence development. 4. To understand conception, prenatal development, birth and how these impact on development 5. To understand how we develop physically, cognitively, socially, and emotionally during 6. To understand developmental tasks, joys, challenges, and problems at each stage. 7. To develop healthy coping skills that can be used to face the challenges of change and transition in the stages of life. 8. To gain a compassionate understanding of how we develop and how others develop to become the unique individuals we are so that we can relate to others in healthy ways that will encourage their growth and development. 9. To apply the information as we relate to others in our families, on the job, at school, and in life.
