Course Objectives

Use MicroSoft Excel’s data analysis and data presentation functions
Create and use optimization models
Create and use simulation models
Use statistics to describe and analyze data
Create forecasts
Acquaint graduate students with some of the more common mathematical tools utilized by production & operations managers in making business decisions.
The primary objective of the course is to provide students with an understanding of some frequently used quantitative tools that managers rely on for decision-making purposes. A certain level of mathematical hands-on calculation will be required to ensure understanding of the management science methods presented within the text. And while mathematics will be used to develop understanding, the course aims to develop decision-making ability by properly interpreting the results. The Management Science Software, available with the text, will be used throughout the course.
Provide students with opportunities to apply classroom learning to actual business cases and to suggest recommended courses of action.
Allow students to collaborate on a business case and present their findings in both written and oral form.
