Description:This capstone course gives students the opportunity to explore literature and topics that go beyond the subject matter of the other English course offerings—and to do so in depth, applying both analytical and research skills at an advanced level. Seminar format means that students will present frequently in class and write at least one research paper of near-publishable quality.

Course Objectives

Students should A. Significantly improve their ability to read, analyze, and discuss literature B. Increase their knowledge of one specific area of literature C. Produce at least one paper of near-publishable quality that incorporates research into an analytical interpretation of literature D. Improve their understanding of the importance of literature's socio-historical context E. Apply critical theories to works of literature F. Improve their presentation skills through frequent in-class presentations, in preparation for graduate studies and a career in this field
