Description:The most important component of any business system is the data that is available to the system and the end user. This course teaches the student to look at data as a separate entity in the systems life cycle. Students are taught effective design of database systems.

Course Objectives

Be proficient in modeling data using the entity-relationship approach
Be proficient in normalization of relations
Be proficient in designing a simple database
Be proficient using SQL (with basic SQL syntax
Understand the special needs of multi-user database processing and techniques for controlling the consequences of concurrent data access
Understand the issues involved in enterprise data sharing
Understand the nature of data warehouses
"Understand emerging Internet technology relevant to database processing, including the use of XML, ODBC, OLE, DB, and ADO.
