Description:The purpose of this course is to develop analytical techniques in preparation for the CPA exam. Specific emphasis is placed on topics covered in the accounting-practice-and-theory section of the exam. The topics, which build on areas covered in intermediate, advanced, and cost accounting, are statement of changes in financial position, fund accounting, marketable securities, pensions, time-value of money, income taxes, leases, account changes and errors, bonds payable, and interim statements.

Course Objectives

The purpose of this course is to apply accounting theory to business combinations, corporate equity investments, intercompany transactions, and consolidation of wholly-owned and less-than-wholly owned subsidiaries. The course builds on topic areas covered in Intermediate Accounting. These topics include partnerships, affiliated companies, international accounting, segment and interim reporting, non-profit organizations, government entities, special purpose entities, and other relevant subject matter. Students demonstrate mastery of these subjects within the framework of current financial statements. Prerequisites: AC 224, AC 335 Course Objectives In completing this course, students will be able to: • Understand advanced accounting topics consistent with the Certified Public Accounting (CPA) examination • Communicate, in writing and orally, complex technical accounting issues with clarity and conciseness • Analyze current financial statements for public companies and compare to the industry • Demonstrate an understanding of financial statement disclosures
